Next to the Table of Preparation, this niche contains a water basin for the Priest to wash his hands after having prepared the Gifts of Bread and Wine for the Consecration. This basin is a special basin so that the prosphoro (Bread offering) crumbs do not enter the regular plumbing but are rather transferred to a proper receptacle and so that the Priest’s hands are ritually clean for the Consecration of the Host. In the niche will be a Traditional Byzantine mosaic of two Peacocks drinking from a running fountain and on the opposite side of the altar will be another mosaic niche of a saint and their relics.
