Located at the heart of the Solea, the double headed eagle symbolizes the Byzantine Christian Empire that lasted for over 1100 years. It was the coat of arms of the Palaiologos dynasty, the last of the Byzantine Emperors. Facing east and west, the Eagle represents the Spiritual and Temporal realms of the Church (Patriarch) and the Empire (Emperor) that work as one for the salvation of the inhabited world (Oikoumene). It will be made out of the renowned Kozani marble and hand crafted by master tradesmen from Greece. |
